HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

That depends on the length of your book. It takes 4-6 hours to professionally produce one hour of finished audio. This includes the book prep/research, initial recording, editing, proofing, recording any necessary changes or corrections, and mastering your audiobook so that it meets the ACX Submission Requirements.

For example, an audiobook with a runtime of 7 hours will take me approximately 28 to 42 working hours to complete.

You can calculate the approximate runtime of your book by dividing the total word count by 9,300.

i.e. a 50,000 novel would have a runtime of approximately 5.3 hours.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?

I prefer to work through the ACX platform. This is Amazon and Audible’s audiobook creation site. When you submit audiobooks through this site, they will automatically be published to Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.

ACX does NOT charge a separate fee for using their site.

Your first step would be to create an author account on ACX and claim your title. **Please note that your book must be published in either ebook or paperback format on Amazon in order to claim it on ACX. Books that have been listed as pre-orders on Amazon can also be claimed on ACX.

Next, you would visit my profile page on ACX and make me a formal offer to produce your audiobook. This offer should include the price that we have agreed upon as well as two deadline dates.

The first deadline for the first 15 minutes of the audiobook. This allows you to listen to a substantial sample of the book to make sure that we are both on the same page with the production. I request a lead time of 1 week from the date of receiving the manuscript for the first deadline.

The second deadline is for the completed audiobook.

Once I formally accept your offer, your next step would be to send me the manuscript for the book in either PDF or Word Doc format. The manuscript should be the final version of the book that has been edited and is ready to be narrated as-is.

Then, I get to work.

The first thing that I do is READ and prep your book for narration. If I have questions about names or the pronunciations of fictional locations, I’ll reach out to get clarification from you through the ACX messaging system.

Then, I’ll record, edit, proof, and master each chapter of your audiobook.

I always upload chapters to ACX as I complete them so that you can listen to my work as I go. That way, if you discover any issues along the way, I can make those corrections promptly rather than waiting until the end and potentially delaying the production.

Once I submit the final audiobook to you through ACX, you should review it.

If you are happy with the production as-is, you can approve it and it will be sent to ACX for their technical review.

If you require any changes, just let me know and we’ll work on the book until you are satisfied.

Once ACX approves the audiobook it will be automatically be listed on Audible, Amazon and iTunes. So you don’t have to worry about downloading or uploading files.

The ACX review process take approximately 10-14 days to complete.

One thing that you will need to do prior to the final submission is prepare the cover art of the audiobook.

Once the book is listed for sale on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes, I will promote here on my website on my “Audiobooks” page— which gets a substantial number of visitors each month. I will also email an announcement for your book to my listener list, letting them know that the audiobook is for sale.
